A 25-year-old woman and her 11-month-old daughter were found dead Sunday in Carleton Place near Ottawa, connected by police to a 28-year-old man who committed suicide in Montreal the same day.
A family friend had reported the trio missing to the Carleton Place OPP on Saturday night.
Kerry Freda Walters and her infant daughter, Starla, were discovered in a duplex at 474 Joseph St.
Foul play is suspected, according to police, who remained on the scene Monday with forensic investigators. Autopsies for Walters and her daughter are scheduled for Tuesday in Toronto.
Neighbours told CTV Ottawa that the woman, her daughter, and a man had moved in last month, with a vehicle holding Alberta licence plates.
Montreal police, meanwhile, said the man killed himself by jumping from the 17th floor of the famed Queen Elizabeth Hotel on Boulevard Ren�-L�vesque.
It's the same floor where John Lennon and Yoko Ono held one of their "Bed-ins" for peace in 1969. Ironically, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is currently hosting an exhibit on the couple's time there.
The gruesome discoveries in Carleton Place left neighbours shocked along the quiet, tree-lined street Monday.
"To know it's an 11-month-old baby ... I can't understand it," said neighbour Bill Hall.
"He walked the baby every day from 5 to 5:30, (and) he didn't look like he had any problems," said Pierre Konan.
