If you think there have been more bear sightings than usual in Ottawa, you’re right.

The Ministry of Natural Resources says it’s mostly because bears are in mating mode after coming out of hibernation or it’s the first time they’ve been away from their mom and are looking for territory to call their own.

This comes after a bear was spotted in a Manotick backyard early Wednesday morning and a bear was seen eating leftover birthday cake outside another home in that area.

This past weekend, people walking their dog at Conroy Pit also reported seeing a bear on a path.

MNR has a website with information on what to do if you spot a bear and how to report it.
