A 39-year-old woman is dead after the minivan she was driving crashed into a tree just north of Peterborough.

At around 12:40 p.m. Saturday afternoon, the woman was driving north-bound with five occupants when her vehicle left North School Road near the 15th Line of Smith Township and collided with a tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. An adult male passenger was airlifted to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto.

Four other passengers, who were all minors, have been transported by ambulance to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

OPP are investigating the collision. The identities of the occupants are not being released at this time.
