A woman is in serious condition in hospital after she was found unresponsive at the bottom of the Nepean Sportsplex pool Thursday afternoon.

Ottawa paramedics said city lifeguards noticed the 45-year-old woman lying motionless at the bottom of the pool around 2 p.m.

They jumped in and brought her up to the pool deck where they started doing CPR and hooked up the defibrillator, which told them it didn't have to shock her.

When paramedics arrived they said the woman was semi-conscious and struggling to breathe on her own.

She was in serious condition when they arrived at hospital.
