Ottawa police have ruled arson as the cause of a fire at a west-end Catholic elementary school.
The fire caused an estimated $75,000 in damage at Georges Vanier Elementary School, located at 40 Varley Lane.
The fire broke out at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Although heavy smoke quickly filled the school, firefighters managed to contain the blaze to a single classroom.
Firefighters found broken windows when they arrived on scene, and the blaze was immediately considered suspicious.
The Ottawa Catholic School Board does not expect the fire to delay classes from starting in September.
