TORONTO - The Ontario government has officially named Paul Godfrey as the new chairman of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
The well-known Progressive Conservative will head the corporation where scandals over insider wins and executive expenses have dogged the Liberal government for years.
Godfrey has previously said the appointment will not interfere with his duties at the National Post newspaper where he is president and CEO.
The government says five other new members will also join the board.
Ontario Finance Minister Dwight Duncan says each of the new members brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record as some of Ontario's top business leaders.
The other new board members are Shirley Hoy who is the CEO at Toronto Lands Corporation, lawyer Dale Lastman, the co-chair of Goodmans and Anthony Melman, chair and CEO of Nevele Inc. Also named to the board are Thomas O'Brien who joined PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1973 and William Swirsky, the CEO of William J.L. Swirsky & Associates.
