A vigil for an Ottawa engineer who remains missing in Haiti is being held at the St. Francis Park in Hintonburg tonight.

About 40 people are expected to attend the vigil for Katie Hadley, 30, which gets underway at a park behind the Hintonburg Community Centre on Wellington Street from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Hadley has been missing since the earthquake struck on Jan. 12. She checked in to her hotel that afternoon and sent an email to her employer less than an hour before the earthquake hit, letting them know she arrived safely.

Nearly one week later, family and friends have still not heard from her.

"We have no additional information from the rescue crews over the weekend. We know the rescue crews are still out there. I know they pulled out some people yesterday, but we have no indication it was Katie," colleague Chris Ludwig told CTV Ottawa on Monday.

Hadley was staying at the Montana Hotel in Port-au-Prince, a popular hotel used by westerners who were working in the Haitian capital.

The earthquake caused the hotel to topple. However, Ludwig says there's hope. Survivors were pulled out of the hotel on the weekend.

"She could still be in there," said Ludwig. "People have been found in pockets. There's pockets in the rubble and our hope is that she's in there somewhere and waiting for rescue teams to get to her."

Hadley, who works for Franz Environmental, was in Haiti to conduct an environmental assessment for a government agency. Those who know her say she's a determined woman, who has strong survival skills.

"We're not giving up. People have lasted a lot longer in the rubble than this. And she's a survivor," said Ludwig.
