Nawaraz Subedi was told by his doctor to avoid the stairs due to a leg injury that placed him on crutches.

When he decided to take OC Transpo, he was left with no other choice.

“My doctor recommended me not to take stairs and put on heavy weight on that,” Subedi says of his leg.

For most of the day, tuesday, all three elevators at Lincoln Fields Station were out of order.

““At OC Transpo, the safety and well-being of our customers and employees is a top priority,” says Michele Rochette, acting facilities manager at OC Transpo in a statement.

“Today, three elevators at Lincoln Fields Station were placed temporarily out-of-service in order to repair the Emergency Phone system. Water damage was observed on the Emergency Phone which caused a short circuit. This water damage was a result of vandalism,” the statement further reads.

OC Transpo mentioned the breakdowns in its live update website, which at one point indicated 11 out of 48 elevators were out of service.

Directions on the website also pointed users to other elevators which were also broken.

“People need those elevators. Especially the seniors with the walkers, the wheelchairs,” says transit user Andre St-George.

OC Transpo said all three elevators at Lincoln Fields Station would be fixed by this evening.

Subedi says more should have been done to warn transit users. He say OC transpo should have posted signs around the transit station.

'It is really horrible when there is no sign at all," he says.

At 5pm, the live update site indicated 9 transit station elevators are still out of service.
