A 24-year-old man is dead after two wheels went flying off a tractor trailer on Highway 401 Sunday night.

It happened at about 8:30 p.m. just west of Brockville.

Ontario Provincial Police say the trailer was headed westbound when the rear wheels came off, crossed the concrete barrier and struck a Dodge Neon being driven by Jason Eligh of Mallorytown. Eligh was killed. An autopsy will take place Monday in Ottawa.

Eligh is the father of two young children. His death has left his workplace in a state of shock.

Police say the wheels kept going and hit another vehicle before bouncing back over the barrier and landing in a ditch.

Police located the tractor trailer about 100 kilometres from where the crash happened.

The highway was closed until 5 o'clock Monday morning while investigators assessed the scene.
