Vehicles were flying off the lot Saturday in Winchester; but instead of going from a dealership, they were selling at an auction lot.

Rideau Auctions brings out around 500 vehicles every month and puts them up for the highest bidder, at prices often much below what you'd pay at a dealership.

"There's quite a savings when you come here, usually a couple of thousand at least," said Bonnie Thompson. "Some savings are four or five thousand dollars."

"It's a purple PT Cruiser, it's a 2003," said Isabelle Beaudoin, describing her purchase. "(It) has only 111,000 kilometres, it has a CD player and runs really nice. We got it for $1,700."

The auction yard's owner said the vehicles, which sell anywhere between a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands, come from many sources.

"We get all kinds of cars from repos, dealer consignment, public consignment, all levels of government," said Hunter McCaig.

The drawback? Some customers said the purchase is a bit more risky than at a dealership.

"You can't return it," said Kody McMaster. "At a dealership you get all the information before you buy the car; here, you buy the car then you get all the information."

Still, hundreds of people stop by every month to drive away with a deal, a good sign for the auction yard recovering from a warehouse fire last month.
