The ex-boyfriend of a teen in hospital will appear in court Monday in relation to a triple shooting that took place in Prince Edward County on Friday, killing the teen's mother and sister and also injuring her.

Ontario Provincial Police charged Dean Brown, 18, of Belleville with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. He had dated Shannon Hannah for several years, but the two broke up a month ago.

The shooting at 305 Valley Rd., south of Belleville, early on Friday left both her mother, Tracy, and her 14-year-old sister, Whitney, dead. Another girl sleeping over at the Hannah household that morning escaped injury when she hid in a closet.

OPP forensic investigators remained on scene on the weekend, combing through the house for any clues. Yellow police tape blocked the entrance to the driveway, marking the only house within two minutes' drive in the rural community.

A joint police force from Belleville, Tyendinaga and the OPP brought Brown into custody on Friday morning. He remains in custody pending the court date.

Anyone with more information should contact Prince Edward OPP at 613-476-2151 or 1-888-310-1122.
