Higher gas prices are being blamed for a 10 per cent increase to taxi fares in the Capital.
The increase means taxi metre rates will start at $3.40, as of June 1.
The taxi union asked the city to move up a scheduled fare increase to help them deal with the rising cost of fuel.
A city committee approved the fare increase on Thursday.
Taxi fares in Ottawa have been frozen for the last two years.
