Ottawa police have used surveillance video to identify two suspects in the brutal beating of a Blue Line taxi driver early Friday morning, but no arrests have been made.

Police provided few other details on Saturday, other than to say that 40-year-old Abdurazik Abdullahi is now in stable condition after emerging from a coma with brain and jaw injuries.

The names of the suspects were not released to the media.

Abdullahi was attacked by at least two men in an area near Elgin Street and Gladstone Avenue at about 1 a.m. Friday. Police said the incident appeared to follow an argument, possibly about a fare.

The attack left the union representing Ottawa taxi drivers repeating their concerns about safety on the job.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call investigators at 613-236-1222 ext. 5166 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-TIPS.
