An Ottawa man has been charged after a fraud investigation revealed a stolen credit card was being used following a car theft in the ByWard Market.

A wallet containing large amounts of Canadian and U.S. currency and items totaling over $9,000 were stolen from a vehicle on Murray Street on Monday.

Two men entered a store the following morning and used the victim's credit card. They were acting suspicious, according to police, and drew the attention of security officers.

They were arrested after trying to make a second purchase. One man was released unconditionally.

Michael Clayton, 26, is charged with using a stolen credit card, personation, possession of stolen property, and drawing a document without authority. He appeared in court Wednesday morning.
