Jason Spezza has been named the new captain of the Ottawa Senators.

The announcement comes on the same day the Detroit Red WIngs announced Senators former Captain Daniel Alfredsson will wear his Number "11" on their team.

Back and knee injuries limited Spezza to just five regular-season and three playoff games last season, and he conceded to TSN earlier that not being invited to Canada's Olympic orientation camp "gives me a little chip on my shoulder."

The 30-year-old Spezza has 228 goals, 393 assists and 621 points.

Chris Phillips and Chris Neil will be the alternate captains.
