A vehicle is mangled and sheared in half after a garbage truck slammed into a car in south Ottawa late Wednesday morning, sending three people to hospital, including a baby girl.

The crash sent twisted metal and bits of a downed traffic light scattered across the intersection of Hunt Club and Conroy Roads at 11 a.m.

Ottawa paramedics say the collision caused the dump truck to flip on its side.

The 25-year-old male driver of the dump truck was sent to hospital to be treated for injuries to his head, neck and ribcage. He is in serious but stable condition.

The female driver of the car, who is believed to be in her late 20s, is in serious condition in hospital. She was treated for a fractured pelvis and fractured leg, as well as internal injuries.

Paramedics say a three-month-old baby who was a passenger in the woman's vehicle was treated for an abrasion to her forehead. She was transported to hospital for assessment and observation.

Paramedics say she was properly positioned in her car seat.

Hunt Club and Conroy Roads were closed in both directions until about 3:35 p.m. Police are continuing their investigation.
