Police are on the hunt for a robber after he allegedly jumped a woman from behind, pulled out a small handgun and stole her purse at an ATM in Ottawa's west end.

The robbery happened at about 7:15 a.m. Friday at a Royal Bank ATM machine at 117 Centrepoint Drive.

Police say the woman initially tried to fight back, but gave up her bright yellow purse when the man pulled out a gun. She suffered minor injuries during the attack.

Police say the suspect is described as a man about 20 years old, with brown eyes and a medium build. He was wearing a black and white hoodie, blue jeans and a black bandana that covered part of his face at the time of the incident.
