CTV Ottawa has learned the outdoor water ban in the southwest part of the city might be lifted earlier than expected.

The city is expected to announce a new timeline for the water ban later this week.

"The crews have been working very hard. They've been working evenings, they've been working weekends. They've been working under some tough conditions with all the traffic in the area," said Coun. Steve Desroches, whose ward is affected by the ban.

"We've had good weather. We've done what we can. I'm very pleased with the progress we're making and I think we'll have some good news this week."

The ban was initially supposed to last until mid-August. City officials later announced the ban would be lifted at the end of July.

The city issued the outdoor water ban for about 80,000 residents in Barrhaven, Riverside South and Manotick because of a water main break on Woodroffe Avenue.
