Ottawa will get a residential youth drug treatment centre after 20 years of trying.

The board of the Champlain Local Health Integration Network approved two centres for youth between the ages of 13 and 17.

One is a 15-bed facility for anglophones and the other a five-bed unit for francophones.

The province will be asked to fund the annual operating budget of $2.4 million.

The Anglophone program will be housed at a Carp Road facility currently used by the Royal Ottawa hospital.
