OTTAWA - The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid charges in connection to a theft and carjacking.

On September 23, 2013, at approximately 8:50 am, a lone male suspect entered a convenience store situated along the 200 block of Durocher Street. The suspect proceeded to make a small purchase but then grabbed the cash register and fled the premises. A short time later, the suspect was spotted by responding patrol officers, now having dropped the register, along Montreal Rd. Officers engaged in a foot pursuit of the suspect. The suspect entered a vehicle stopped along Montreal Rd. and attempted to push the driver from the vehicle. The driver exited the vehicle and the suspect then attempted to flee as officers pinned the vehicle and took the suspect into custody. Neither victim was injured as a result of these incidents.

Michael MENDONCA, age 28 of Ottawa, is charged with robbery, theft under $5000, assault police, resisting arrest X 3, and breach of recognizance. Mr. Mendonca was held for court September 24, 2013.
