OTTAWA - Due to the overwhelming success of the Pixels for Pistols Program, Ottawa Police, in partnership with Henry’s and Olympus, will extend the firearms amnesty for an additional two weeks.
“Since October 7th, we have received 350 firearms and the calls are continuing to come in,” said Staff Sergeant Mark Patterson, head of the Ottawa Police Guns and Gangs Section. “Based on these results, Henry’s and Olympus have generously agreed to extend the program to Sunday, November 3rd.”
Residents of Ottawa can continue to call police to pick up firearms by phoning 613-236-1222 ext. 7300 or by email at pixelsforpistols@ottawapolice.ca.
In exchange, owners of guns that qualify will receive a voucher by mail for an Olympus VG-160 digital point and shoot camera and for Henry’s School of Imaging course, for a total value of $175.00.
The Ottawa Police will accept air and pellet guns, starter pistols and ammunition for disposal but reward cards will only be given for operational firearms.
The Ottawa Police Service, the Ontario Government and Henry’s are committed to putting an end to gun violence in our City. Your participation will ensure that Ottawa is safer places to live by disposing of unwanted or unused firearms so they do not find their way onto our streets.
Do not bring firearms into police stations or Henry’s stores.
