OTTAWA - The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has charged three suspects in connection with a retail robbery and forcible confinement.

On October 28, 2013, at approximately 10:30 a.m., three suspects entered a retail smoke shop situated along the 0 block of Montreal Road. The three suspects confronted a lone employee and made a demand for cash. The employee was bound in a back room. The suspects caused damages to surveillance cameras inside the store and then proceeded to move a safe and cigarettes out the back door.

A vehicle was summoned to the scene by the suspects. The suspects were in the process of loading property into the vehicle when police arrived and took the three suspects and the driver into custody. Police arrived at the scene just before 11:00 after having received a call from outside the store about the robbery in progress. There were no injuries though paramedics did attend and examine the store employee at the scene.

Kyle RICHER-MARTIN, age 22, Ramzi WAHLIE, age 20, and Edmund ASANTE, age 22, all of Ottawa have been charged jointly with robbery, forcible confinement, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and mischief under $5000. Mr. Asante has also been charged with breach of probation. The driver of the vehicle was interviewed and released without charge.
