Charges have been laid in a number of recent Ottawa bank and pharmacy robberies.

Ottawa police say 19-year-old Ottawa native Yassin Ibrahim is charged with seven counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery for his alleged involvement in eight robberies from mid-January to April 6.

They include two in four days at a Scotiabank on Ridgewood Avenue in late February, and the March 6 robbery of a Shoppers Drug Mart on Meadowlands Drive.

Ibrahim was arrested Wednesday following a pharmacy robbery on Merivale Road where police say OxyContin was allegedly demanded from the pharmacist.

Also charged in Wednesday's robbery are Jonathon Vong, 19, Gary Lai, 19, and Adam Abdi, 20, all from Ottawa.

Vong and Lai are facing charges of robbery and disguise with intent in the Merivale Road pharmacy robbery.

Abdi and the others are also charged with attempted robbery of a Shoppers Drug Mart on Richmond Road that same day.

Ibrahim was scheduled to appear in court Friday. The others have their first appearance May 10.
