Ottawa Councillor Stephen Blais has regained consciousness and is responding well to treatment at the Ottawa Heart Institute.
Blais suffered a heart attack on Monday as he was working out with a trainer at an east end gym.
Doctors at the Heart Institute placed him in a medically induced coma to help his body recover.
His family issued a statement on Wednesday afternoon to express thanks for all the residents who have expressed support and good wishes. Blais is one of the youngest members of City Council. He's 32 years old.
