One person is dead after being struck by a VIA rail passenger train headed to Toronto from Montreal.
VIA Rail spokesperson, Malcolm Andrews, said it happened just west of Belleville at 2:10 Tuesday afternoon.
The train tracks between Ottawa and Toronto were not being used while police investigated. Train traffic was moving again as of 3:40 p.m. The victim has not been identified.
There were 103 passengers on board. Passengers affected by the brief closure of the tracks were placed on a bus.
It is not yet clear what caused the crash.
