London has its Tube.  Paris has its Metro.

What is Ottawa going to have when its new LRT project, including a downtown tunnel, is finished?

How about the O-Train?

A report from city staff to Ottawa’s Transit Commission recommends the name O-Train be applied to the entire LRT system. It is already the name of the train running north/south from Bayview to Greenboro that has been operating since 2001.

To avoid confusion, the report recommends the existing O-Train line be named the Trillium Line to differentiate it from the under-construction Confederation Line.

According to the report, “Every transit system that has a rail rapid transit service as part of its network has a name that is used to identify the rail service and to distinguish it from bus services…”

It refers to Toronto’s TTC, Calgary’s CTrain and Vancouver’s Skytrain as examples.

It adds that the name O-Train is already well-known. And it's bilingual.

The report  goes before the Transit Commission on September 17th.

Tell us what you think. Do you like keeping O-Train, or do you have another suggestion for naming Ottawa's LRT system?
