Police are still investigating what may have caused a fatal motor vehicle collision near Carp on Friday night, killing a 45-year-old man and critically injuring another man, 44.

The crash took place at Donald B. Munro Drive and Vaughan Side Road in Ottawa's extreme west end. There were only two drivers involved in the collision. One was pronounced dead at the scene around 7:36 p.m.

The other was flown to the trauma centre and had critical, multiple-system injuries Friday night. That was upgraded to non-life threatening injuries on Saturday afternoon.

The intersection remained closed until 4:30 a.m. Saturday as traffic investigators scoured the scene. So far, police have not released the name of the man who has died.
