The Motorcycle Ride for Dad handed over a cheque to the mayor of Ottawa Tuesday, with organizers urging all men to get checked for prostate cancer.

"There's still 12 men in Canada dying every day from this disease and that's crazy, especially when they can get checked and get it fixed. If they detect it early enough, it can be cured," said Andy Church, co-chair of the Ottawa chapter of the Motorcycle Ride for Dad.

Church presented the mayor with a cheque on Tuesday for more than $360,000 that was raised in last year's Ride for Dad. All of the money will be spent on research and education in Ottawa.

The first Motorcycle Ride for Dad event was organized in Ottawa 10 years ago, with the aim of raising money and awareness for prostate cancer. The ride is now celebrated by hundreds of bikers across the country.

This year's ride is set to take place June 5.
