The body of a man wanted for attempted murder has been found in the burned out home he once shared with his ex-girlfriend.

The Kemptville area home was jointly owned by the couple. Police had considered the fire suspicious.

Ontario provincial police have not determined how the blaze started.  An autopsy will be performed to determine how Legare died.

It's alleged that 35-year-old Claude Legare stabbed Brenda Van Leyen last week. That set off a manhunt for him.

Van Leyen, 47, is still recovering from serious injuries in hospital after being stabbed multiple times outside a Shoppers Drug Mart store on Strandherd Drive.

A drug store employee who came to her aid was also stabbed. He suffered minor injuries in the attack.

Legare had been wanted for attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, attempted kidnapping, and three counts of breach of recognizance.
