Three people are in hospital and Gatineau police are investigating not just one crash, but a series of crashes, after an elderly man lost control of his pickup ttruck early Monday evening.

Police say a man in his 80s was driving along Chemin Mont-Bleu just after 5 when his vehicle smashed into a car.  The pickup truck then jumped the sidewalk, knocking down two young pedestrians.  The girls, aged 11 and 2 and a half, were originally taken to Hull hospital, then transferred to CHEO.  Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

But that  wasn't the end.  Gatineau police say the pickup truck then careened into the parking lot of an Ultramar gas station at Mont Bleu and Daniel Johnson roads, hitting a total of four vehicles.  Two passengers in those vehicles were not hurt.

The driver of the pickup, an elderly man in his 80s, is in critical condition at hospital.  Gatineau police say they suspect he suffered  a heart attack or other medical condition prior to losing control of his vehicle, but that has yet to be confirmed.
