A man is facing several criminal charges after threatening two people with a needle in an attempted robbery Saturday night.

The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. in the 1500 block of Scott Street, near Parkdale Avenue, when the man approached two people in their unlocked vehicle, demanded a wallet and purse, and threatened them with a needle.

During a brief struggle, the suspect made a stabbing motion with the needle. It pierced  through the woman's jacket but did not hit her skin. 

A foot chase ensued between one of the victims and the suspect when he tried to flee the scene with the purse. An undercover police officer observed the chase and arrested the suspect.

No injuries were reported.

Gregory Lyle Brown, 38, has been charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of possession of a weapon, one count of attempted theft and one count of breach of probation.

Brown is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 16.
