KINGSTON, Ont. -- A 25-year-old Bancroft, Ont., man is facing charges after allegedly shooting a young girl with a BB gun loaded with Q-tips.

Police say the accused was living with his girlfriend and her children in Kingston, Ont., last year, but after allegations of abuse involving the family members, the children went to live with relatives in Manitoba.

Investigators allege the man began using force, including the using a BB Gun to shoot Q-tips at his girlfriend and the children, last summer to take control of the family.

It's alleged that in one incident he attempted to shoot his girlfriend in the face and in another a nine-year-old girl was shot with a Q-tip that punctured her skin.

Kingston police say the accused surrendered on Wednesday and is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon.

They say the investigation was aided by police in Brandon, Man.
