KINGSTON, Ont. - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors clinched a playoff position thanks in large part to a full group effort.
Jamie Wise and Mika Partanen each had three goals and an assist as the Majors crushed the host Kingston Frontenacs 9-0 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.
The win not only guarantees the Majors a playoff spot, but leapfrogs them over the Belleville Bulls - who lost to the Sudbury Wolves - into sixth place in the Eastern Conference.
"We had contributions from everybody in the lineup and it was a solid performance," said Majors head coach James Boyd. "It's good to have a playoff spot wrapped up and our guys did a great job putting it away early,"
Brett Foy scored twice for the Majors (30-27-7), Spenser Cobbold had a goal and an assist while Dylan DeMelo and Riley Brace chipped in with three assists each.
Nathan Cull was a team worst minus-4 for the Frontenacs (19-39-7), who have dropped six straight games and sit last in the Eastern Conference.
Brandon Maxwell turned away all 28 shots he faced for his second consecutive shutout as Jacob Riley allowed all nine goals on 44 shots against.
Mississauga went 2-for-4 on the power play while Kingston failed to score on its only opportunity with the man advantage.
At Kingston, Ont., Wise opened the scoring 7:24 into the game and Partanen followed him up with a power-play goal at 12:48.
Wise scored again at 14:37 to make it 3-0 Majors after 20 minutes of play.
Partanen added his second of the game at 7:10 of the second period and Wise completed his hat trick at 12:24.
Foy made it 6-0 at 18:18.
Partanen earned his hat trick at 12:26 of the third period, Foy added one more at 14:43 and finally Cobbold scored on the power play at 18:46 for Mississauga's ninth and final goal.
