KISS rocker Gene Simmons is adding 45 minutes to the beginning of the band's show at the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest Wednesday night.

KISS will hit the stage at 8:45 p.m. Music fans might also catch a glimpse of Simmons' longtime partner Shannon Tweed, who plans to accompany the band before they rock the stage.

Although today is not officially Shannon Tweed Day in the capital, the fanfare for the former Ottawa resident and Playboy model remains strong.

Security outside Al's Steakhouse on Ottawa's Elgin Street was heavy Tuesday night as a private party for Simmons and Tweed got underway.

Inside, the rocker and former model had a chance to catch up with old friends and meet some of Ottawa's most notable residents.

Outside, a throng of fans gathered to try to catch a glimpse of the couple, who also star in the reality TV show 'Family Jewels.'

Earlier in the day, Simmons and Tweed took a stroll along Bank Street and visited Parliament Hill.

Tweed once lived in the capital, where she modeled and served cocktails for about four years.

In 1977, she was crowned Miss Ottawa Valley. Five years later, she was named Playboy's Playmate of the Year.

A move by Acting Mayor Doug Thompson to declare Shannon Tweed Day in the capital was shot down last week after several councillors complained about the idea during a closed-door meeting.

The flip-flop over the declaration, which Thompson proposed before consulting with his colleagues, has caused buzz across the city.

Who knows, maybe the controversy will land on American airwaves. A camera crew is currently in town to film the couple's visit for their TV show, 'Family Jewels.'
