Residents of Kanata's Glen Cairn neighbourhood faced flooding last summer when a heavy rainfall swamped the capacity of the draingage system in their neighbourhood, according to a city study.

The report says excess water ran into sanitary sewers though manhole cover ventilation holes, leading sewer pipes in homes to back up and flood basements with toilet waste on July 24, 2009.

Surface water also made its way through foundations and windows as creeks and the Carp Water couldn't carry it away quickly enough, the report adds.

The city plans to examine how to improve overland drainage to better channel the water during a heavy rainfall.
