Friends gather to remember slain teen in Fournier
A vigil was held for Jessica Godin Monday night, near the east Ontario community where the 18-year-old's body was found on Saturday.
Friends gathered in Fournier, east of Ottawa, to hammer a cross into the ground and remember a fun-loving girl.
"She's the life of the party," said Domenic Crete. "She's the girl everybody loves to be with."
"She was very big-hearted, she had a lot of friends," said Valerie Beauchamp. "She was very, very open and she would help everyone she could."
An autopsy Monday revealed that 18-year-old Jessica Godin may have been the victim of a hit-and-run, as Hawkesbury OPP said Godin could have died from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision.
Police said they're now looking for the suspect vehicle, as well as why Godin was found almost 40 kilometres away from her hometown of Casselman.
"That's what we're trying to find out, we do have investigators on the scene trying to find her location prior to her death," said Sgt. Kristine Rae. "People have been calling in to provide information, which we are very appreciative of. We still have some leg work to do."
Her body was found near Du Parc Street on Saturday, in the small town of about 300 people.
The mayor said he wanted residents to keep their eyes open.
"When you see something different, I'm not saying call police, but just keep remembering it," said François St. Amour, mayor of Nation township.
Some residents are doing just that, saying they heard a vehicle stuck near the town's park on Thursday night, which has since been cordoned off along with an entire street.
"(My granddaughter) went there Thursday night and there was a guy in a ditch and she pulled a car (out)," said Alice Martin. "She came home and she was afraid."
Godin's friends are urging the driver to come forward, saying it would give her a chance to rest in peace.
