A 21-year-old Gatineau woman died in a collision Tuesday morning that closed southbound lanes of Highway 416 between Spencerville and Highway 401.
The single-vehicle rollover occurred just after 10 a.m., about five kilometres north of the 401 junction. A 1996 Honda Accord with five occupants lost control in the passing lane before crossing the dividing line and striking a tree in the west-side ditch.
The driver died at the scene. The front-seat passenger was taken by air ambulance to the Ottawa Hospital with serious injuries. The other three passengers were taken to Brockville General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
As of 3:20 pm., the lanes were expected to remain closed for several hours. A detour has been set up at County Rd. 44 into Spencerville for southbound traffic.
The OPP are continuing investigating what caused the crash.
