A large plane bearing an American flag was forced to perform an emergency landing at the Ottawa International Airport after crews reported smoke in the cockpit Wednesday morning.

The flight carrying more than 50 people left Ottawa's airport at 7:30 a.m. and had to turn back about 15 minutes into the flight.

Fire officials and paramedics rushed to the runway where the plane managed to land safely around 8 a.m.

It is being reported it was a U.S. Airway plane headed to Charlotte, N.C.

No one was injured.

Airport officials say passengers are rebooking flights and that no one should be in jeopardy of reaching their destination for the holidays.
