A 72-year-old female driver is dead after she went into medical distress while driving, slamming her vehicle into a house in a south Ottawa neighbourhood.

Ottawa Fire Services told CTV Ottawa the woman suffered a medical condition while driving in the area of Bank Street and Rosebella Avenue in the Blossom Park neighbourhood, south of Hunt Club Road, at about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The woman, whose identity has not been released, was found trapped in her vehicle without vital signs.

The woman's vehicle struck the back of a small house on Rosebella Avenue, causing $120,000 in damage.

Nobody was in the house at the time of the incident. However, the impact of the crash shifted the home's foundation, said fire spokesperson Marc Messier.

Paramedics say the house shifted several inches forward, and part of the chimney also fell to the ground.

It took emergency workers more than 20 minutes to free the woman from her vehicle. Although paramedics tried to revive her, she was declared dead on the scene.
