Osgoode Ward councillor Doug Thompson says he will not be running in October's municipal election.
Thompson has represented the ward for 31 years.
He was originally planning to retire from civic politics four years ago but was persuaded to continue.
Thompson says his ward is in great shape, the city is doing well and now is the time to move on.
Four candidates have already filed their papers to run in Osgoode ward.
