The owner of a dog that bit off part of a woman's nose at a Home Depot store in Ottawa last month is fighting her fine.

The dog was in a shopping cart when a greeter at a Home Depot Store on Cyrville Road bent down to pet it.

The dog jumped up, biting off the tip of Anne Riel's nose. She needed surgery to reattach part of her nostril.

As a result, dog owner Odette Fournier was fined $600 under the Animal Control Act. Her dog, Spot, now wears a miniature muzzle.

"I keep telling him if he wants to go out, he has to wear it. You put a muzzle on a 12-year-old dog, he's used to his own little ways, but he's good. He tries to take it off but mommy says ‘no'," Fournier told CTV Ottawa.

The incident prompted Home Depot to update its policy on allowing pets in stores.

As of this week, no pets are allowed in any Home Depot store in Canada, with the exception of service animals.
