The Ottawa Police Guns and Gangs Unit is investigating a shooting Wednesday evening in the city’s west end.   Officers were on patrol on Lepage Avenue for an unrelated event around 9:40 p.m. when they were approached by residents saying they had seen two suspicious men, one of whom was carrying a gun.  The residents told police it appeared the men had gone towards a building in the 1400 block Lepage.  Just as officers were en route, a 911 call came in regarding a disturbance at that same address.  The caller told police they had also heard a gunshot.

Officers found a bullet hole inside one of the units of the apartment building.  Residents tell CTV News that several police cars swarmed the building, which is owned by Ottawa Community Housing.

“I seen 7 police cars pull into the back,” says resident George Waters, “and then this morning I heard inside 1400 there was a shooting.  I don't know what floor it was.”

“My father-in-law has been here 18 years,” adds Silfredo Almonte, “and they never had that type of stuff going on here right now.  This is an unsafe place to live and they should clear it up.”
