The owners of a home on Leeward Street near Merivale Road came home to a house full of smoke Monday afternoon.
Fire officials say, though flames were out before the owners arrived and called 9-1-1, it caused extensive damage to the basement. Heavy smoke damage throughout the home helped to bring the damage estimate up to $450,000.
No one was injured in the blaze. The cause is under investigation.
