A dozen arrests were made in Vanier and Lowertown this week as part of a two-day prostitution sweep meant to reduce these activities in the city, said Ottawa police.

Four "johns" and seven prostitutes were arrested, and one man booked separately on charges of drug trafficking. Charges included mischief, breaches of judicial release and communicating for the purpose of prostitution.

Some of the johns will go to an educational program about the problems of prostitution, police say.
