A 34-year-old man has been identified as the victim of Ottawa's tenth homicide of the year Sunday.

Police said they were called to Charleston Street in the residential south Ottawa community of Barrhaven around 1:13 a.m., where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds outside his home.

Khamsouriya Eric Vongviset was taken to hospital where police said 34-year-old later died of his injuries.

There have been no arrests and the area around the street was closed off for the investigation. Bullet casings still sat on the front yard once the sun rose.

Neighbours said they heard gunshots but didn't know exactly how many.

"I thought it was two and my neighbour said it's six he heard," said Wajma Esmattullah, who added he thought the noises was someone using a hammer.

"I only heard (three) bullet noises," said Sukchief Singh. "(I've lived here) almost five years . . . it's safe all the time, kids play outside all around here no problem."
