Gatineau police said 12 people have been arrested after two unrelated, overnight beatings.
Around 4 a.m. Saturday, police said they responded to a call about three men fighting on Rue Garneau near Rue Morin and Boulevard des Allumettières.
They said officers followed a trail of blood that led them to the victim, a man believed to be in his 30s. He had serious injuries to his head and arms and was undergoing surgery at an Ottawa hospital Saturday morning.
Brenda St-Gelais lives in the area and said the man “wasn’t moving at all. He looked like a dead body.”
“I thought someone threw somebody on top of a car, that’s what it sounded like,” said Patricia Belley.
Police said 2 men were arrested after they canvassed the neighbourhood.
Earlier around 2:50 a.m. Saturday, police said they responded to a call for a man being assaulted in front of 11 Rue Bériault near Boulevard Fournier.
They said a man believed to be in his 20s was driving his car when someone flagged him down to stop.
Police said nine other men then showed up and beat the victim with a baseball bat.
The victim suffered injuries to his head and cuts on his face. He was treated and released from hospital.
His vehicle was also damaged during the altercation.
Police said 10 people, including 3 minors, have been arrested in connection with this incident.
Charges are expected to be laid and could include assault with a weapon.
Gatineau Police are still investigating both incidents and trying to determine whether or not the victims knew their attackers.
Gatineau Police said the two incidents are not related.
