TORONTO - An autopsy is being conducted on the body of a 22-year-old Madoc man who was killed at the Canada Talc mine early Wednesday morning.
Police say the man was killed while working about 200 metres underground in an area where talc is moved up to be crushed and refined.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Labour says the man was filling a skip with "heavy muck" when it began moving on its own and engulfed him.
Inspectors are at the site investigating the cause of the incident, though control of the site has been passed to the coroner's office.
The mine's rescue unit recovered the body Wednesday morning.
The company's website indicates approximately 50 employees work at the mine, which generates between $1 million and $5 million in sales.
