BELLEVILLE, Ont. -- A military police officer has been sentenced for breaking into a Trenton, Ont., home and assaulting a resident.

Matthew Horner, 38, pleaded guilty in Belleville, Ont., court to being unlawfully in a dwelling house and assault with a weapon.

Horner was given a conditional discharge and placed on probation for 18 months.

Horner was charged by provincial police after an on-duty member of the Canadian Armed Forces Military Police broke into a home on Jan. 4, 2013.

A male occupant of the home was assaulted and a firearm was pointed at another man.

Horner was posted to CFB Trenton at the time of the incident.
