Loeb grocery stores across the region are getting a facelift as they change over to the Metro grocery store banner.

Metro is taking over all Loeb grocery stores in the Ottawa region, with plans to become the largest conventional grocer in eastern and central Canada.

"In August 2008, we announced that we'd be converting five well-known brands: Dominion, A&P, Ultra, The Barn, and Loeb in Ontario, to the Metro banner," said Eric La Fleche, CEO of Metro Stores.

Twenty stores in the Ottawa region will bear the Metro brand by the beginning of June, giving shoppers the opportunity to earn air miles on their grocery bill.

The company spent $22 million to give the stores a new look.
