Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson is expected to unveil the city's new price tag for light rail during a special announcement to councillors and business leaders on Thursday.

Watson will make the announcement at Ottawa City Hall at 3 p.m.

City council previously asked staff to come up with an updated estimate for the project, which includes a downtown tunnel along a route extending from Tunney's Pasture to Blair Road. The latest estimate was $2.1-billion.

The city still has to put out a contract for bids on the project. Watson has previously stated the future of light rail depends on how companies respond.

The public will get its say on the new cost for light rail at a special council meeting scheduled for next Wednesday.
